Picking a name:

There are many factors on which you can base the name that you chose for your puppy. If you are a dog show fan you'll notice a lot of dogs actually have two separate name. They have their registered name and their "call" name.

Registered Names:

This name can be a simple as what you will call your dog on a daily basis or can be derived from parents names, names from the country of origin, or really what ever process you prefer. There are guidelines available from many credible sources. The only real no-no's are trying to include obscenities or use registered identifications without permission. There are several web sites to be found that encourage pet owners to be creative. There are a few links on this page.

"Call" Names:

The ideal call name is only one word. Preferably only one or two syllables. The easier, the better. It should not sound similar to any of the commands he is expected to obey. There is nothing a puppy loves more than the sound of his own name. The quicker he learns his name the faster he will realize his bond to the person who is speaking it.
